Not only is Bronx-born Judge Sonia Sotomayor the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice (and one of only 3 women), this also marks the first time that the "oath" was allowed to be televised. 
Chief Justice (the Head Honcho) John Roberts administered the 62-word oath required of all federal judges. In a private ceremony just moments before, Sotomayor took a separate, constitutional oath across the hall becoming the 111th Supreme Court Justice. Both oaths are necessary for her to assume her new duties.
Her mother, Celina, held a ceremonial Bible as Sonia Sotomayor waved to relatives and guests. Juan Sotomayor was also there beaming with Pride at his sister's accomplishments!
